Audio Port Acoustics was founded by Lawrence M. Port — a lifelong audio obsessive with four decades in audio, video and lighting, and twenty years behind the decks as a DJ. After a career spent moving rooms with other people's equipment, he set out to build the speaker he always wished existed: concert-loud, sonically pure, and light enough for one person to handle.

That speaker became the Ethan 8. To make it sing, Lawrence partnered with Richard Dalbec of Dalbec Audiolab — the engineer behind the legendary Studio 54 sound system — and built the cabinet around Dalbec's patented LQt technology. The result was something genuinely new: line-array performance from a fraction of the weight and cost.

The Field Test

The Ethan 8 was proven the hard way — outdoors, at volume. From the boardwalk at Coney Island to an open field at Dalbec's place, the system was pushed until the neighbors noticed. On one occasion, police arrived from miles away just to ask him to turn it down. Four 50-lb Ethan 8 cabinets and a stack of subs were doing it all — running from a single 15-amp household outlet.

A Complete System

The speaker was only the beginning. The Miki Stage Sub brought earth-moving low end in a box one person could still lift. The Acoustic Engine condensed an entire concert rig — interface, processing and power for 2,500 people — into the footprint of a powered speaker. Together they form a system that breaks down in minutes and fits in a mini-van.

Audio Port Acoustics made its public debut at the DJ Expo in Atlantic City in 2016, and continues to build every system by hand in Brooklyn, New York — for DJs, engineers and venues who believe, as we do, that sound should be felt.
